Amy’s Gluten Free Cheddar Cheese Burrito Review

Amy's Gluten Free Cheddar Cheese Burrito

Amy’s frozen foods have long been a staple of the vegetarian-on-the-go diet. It’s easy to see why; with a huge assortment of products to choose from, it’s never hard to find something you might like.

Their Gluten-Free Cheddar Cheese Burrito is one of those foods we wanted to love but just couldn’t. First of all, the second we pulled our burrito out of the tin foil we’d cooked it in, it immediately started falling apart, even though we’d given it enough time in the oven to ensure the shell had a slight crisp.

Now, there’s nothing wrong with messy food, but we expected a little more from this burrito than a sloppy plate full of burrito filling.

With the exception of the gluten-free tortilla, this burrito doesn’t attempt to do anything noteworthy. The filling is the standard faire of pinto beans, brown rice, and cheddar and monterey jack cheese. Its flavor is a step above the very budget-friendly frozen burritos, but it’s still a step below a lot of other options in its price range.

There are other brands on the market that are doing a much better job at making tasty frozen burritos. Evol’s line, for example, shoots for exceptional quality (the Sriracha Chicken is incredible, though not vegetarian-friendly), while Sweet Earth tends to experiment with interesting international flavor combos (the Peruvian and the Kyoto are especially great). Amy’s Gluten Free Cheddar Cheese Burrito doesn’t attempt to match the quality of Evol’s products or the adventure of Sweet Earth’s. It ends up being a pretty mediocre burrito as a result.
