For those living in the right parts of the world, street tacos are a summertime staple. However, if you’re living in an area where food trucks are scarce, or if you do but it’s just not street taco season, you can still scratch that itch with Evol’s line of frozen street tacos.
We got our hands on the Korean Style Beef & Kimchi Street Tacos, which we’d heard nothing but good things about, and we very enthusiastically got to work on our review. We were not disappointed.
One of the observations that keeps cropping up among Freezer Meal Staffers is that a lot of Evol’s meat-based foods tend to play the meat game pretty conservatively. We were lucky to find a chunk of steak in the Spicy Steak Big Burrito, and we couldn’t find much chicken in the Sriracha Chicken Big Burrito. That’s simply not the case with these street tacos; the beef and steak strips are clearly the centerpiece of this dish.
The corn tortillas felt very authentic as well. Anyone who’s enjoyed actual street tacos on a hot summer evening will fell right at home with one of these in hand. There’s the added bonus, however, that these shells are naturally curved instead of flat, so they maintain their shape even when set on a flat plate. This means you won’t be spilling ingredients out the back end every time you take a bite. It’s a great touch.
According to the box, these street tacos rate at almost the top of Evol’s mild-to-hot rating system. While we still argue the Spicy Steak Big Burrito is far spicier than the Korean Style Beaf & Kimchi Street Tacos, these tacos still do kick pretty hard.
This is almost entirely due to the packet of sriracha sauce that comes in the box. It’s meant to be taken out of the package and thawed in warm water while you’re cooking the tacos, and we found the sauce packet went from frozen solid to warm and saucy in just a few minutes. Do not stick the pouch in the microwave or oven; that’s not how this was intended to be used.
We shouldn’t have been surprised by how delicious these tacos are. After all, we have a huge fondness for Evol’s products (with a few unfortunate exceptions), and the word on the street is that these are supposed to be especially good. These Korean Style Beef & Kimchi Street Tacos now come highly recommended by Freezer Meal Frenzy as well.
