Evol has a fairly robust lineup of frozen burritos, and several of them have been big hits with the Freezer Meal Frenzy staff. (The Sriracha Chicken Big Burrito is still our favorite.) The Chicken Bean & Rice burrito, however, is a little tougher to recommend.
It’s not that the ingredients aren’t as high in quality as usual; it’s just that the combination isn’t quite right, and it ends up feeling like something is missing.
Like many of its brethren, this burrito is pretty skimpy on the chicken content, making it taste more like a bean and rice burrito than a chicken burrito. There is a hint of cheddar too, but it comes as more of an aftertaste than as a true part of this burrito’s flavor.
There’s also a little bit of lime juice in the mix, but it’s not as prominent as it is in Evol’s Cilantro Lime Chicken burrito. In fact, you might not even notice it’s there.
We’ve seen this burrito at several coffee shops, and typically it will be served with a side of salsa. If you add the sweetness of a good tomato-based salsa, the flavor really comes alive. If you’re going to try one of these, we highly recommend pairing it with some sort of dipping sauce.
Taken on its own, though, it’s a little bit bland.
