One of the best compliments you can pay to a frozen meal is that it doesn’t taste like a frozen meal. We have to say, Evol’s Chicken Tikka Masala earns that compliment from the staff here at Freezer Meal Frenzy. You wouldn’t expect Evol to mess up one of Britain’s national dishes, would you?
The spicy sauce tastes great, with a mix of tomato paste, cream, garlic, ginger, and more. It’s actually spicier than we expected; it clears out the sinuses.
With a dish like this, the consistency of the chicken makes a huge impact on the overall quality. Unlike many frozen meals we’ve tried, the chicken here is juicy and has a great texture. The rice has a great texture too; it’s neither too dry nor too soggy.
The cubes of diced carrot don’t have a lot of flavor, but the peas make up for it; they’re a taste explosion!
Our biggest complaint is that it’s not as filling as we’d hoped it would be, but at 270 calories (80 from fat), heating up a second helping isn’t entirely out of the question.
All in all, Evol did a pretty fine job with their Chicken Tikka Masala. The dish packs a punch, and, most importantly, it doesn’t taste like a microwave meal.
