Evol’s Sriracha Chicken Big Burrito is one of our all-time frozen meals, so we had high expectations for what is basically the bowl version of that dish, Evol’s Sriracha Chicken.
When we first pulled this dish out of the microwave, it was surprisingly orange. Considering this is a sriracha dish, we took that as a good sign. And one thing that stuck with us through this whole dish was just how spicy it was. Evol certainly didn’t skimp on the sriracha sauce here.
Speaking of skimping, one of our complaints — or observations, really — about the Sriracha Chicken Big Burrito is just how conservative the amount of chicken was. We could barely spot any. Thankfully, this bowl gave us a chance to really see what this chicken was all about, and it’s excellent. It has a great texture, it has the perfect amount of juiciness, and it even has a little bit of a gristle taste to it. Simply put, this is some high-quality chicken.
The chicken comes served in rice, with a variety of veggies mixed in. Our favorite was the baby corn, which is incredibly rich in flavor for a frozen vegetable. There were some snap peas and broccoli, as well as some carrots that weren’t too soggy.
The rice itself didn’t have a lot of flavor on its own, but it soaked up the sriracha sauce so every bite had a great flavor and a fair amount of spice.
While this won’t topple its little brother, the Sriracha Chicken Big Burrito, as our favorite frozen meal, it’s a high-quality frozen dish for people who enjoy their frozen food on the spicy side.
