Good Food Made Simple Three Pepper Beef Review

Good Food Made Simple Three Pepper Beef

A hearty beef dinner is not necessarily what you imagine when you think of frozen food, but Good Food Made Simple took a shot at delivering a frozen beef meal nonetheless. Their Three Pepper Beef is better than you might expect, though it’s not quite perfect.

To start with, the beef is juicy and has a pretty good texture, but don’t expect this to be as tender as something you might get at an upscale steakhouse. It’s a little chewier than we’d like, but not enough to detract from the quality of this dish.

The beef comes on a bed of rice, and here’s where the biggest problem arises. The rice itself is fine, but it has an overwhelming lemony flavor to it. It actually tastes like someone squeezed an entire lemon into the rice, and this will overpower every last bite. Perhaps Good Food Made Simple should have cut the amount of lemongrass puree back a little bit.

This dish is also pretty generous with its broccoli proportion, though even the broccoli absorbs the lemony taste.

This is a shame, because otherwise, the sauce is fantastic, and it blends with the rice quite well. It has a sweet taste (thanks in part to the organic honey) with a pretty good amount of kick to it from the peppers.

Good Food Made Simple’s Three Pepper Beef isn’t the perfect dish, but for a frozen beef dish, it’s actually pretty good. We just wish the lemongrass wouldn’t try to overpower the rest of the dish so aggressively.
