Udi’s Italian Sausage Lasagna Review

Udi's Italian Sausage Lasagna

We’re big fans of lasagna at Freezer Meal Frenzy, and we’ve definitely discovered our fair share of hits and misses. With their own take on the dish, Udi’s tries to deliver the wonder of lasagna to the gluten-free crowd. So how does their Italian Sausage Lasagna stack up?

Before we get into taste, we do have to point out that this dish comes out of the microwave looking like something out of a horror movie. We know that looks aren’t everything when it comes to food, but this might be the ugliest-looking meal we’ve had to eat here at Freezer Meal Frenzy. This frozen lasagna dish is certainly not something you’d bring home to meet your mother.

But if you can get past the horrid visual, the lasagna itself doesn’t taste bad at all. The sauce is delicious, and it contains generous helpings of both sausage and ricotta cheese. While at first glance it looks pretty greasy, it actually doesn’t leave behind a soupy mess like some of the other lasagna dishes we’ve tried.

The pasta could use a little work. It’s hard to chew through, and it sticks to the bottom of the included tray. Now, we understand that gluten-free pasta must be a difficult thing to make work, but we can’t help but feeling like this could have been just a little bit softer. If you can manage to get past those flaws, it doesn’t taste all that bad.

All in all, Udi’s Italian Sausage Lasagna is pretty tasty, despite its ugly aesthetic. The pasta itself could use a little work, but when it’s safe for the gluten-free crowd, the perfect pasta is a sacrifice we suppose must be made.
