Udi’s Sausage Breakfast Burrito: Second Opinion

Udi's Sausage Breakfast Burrito

While we’re clearly big fans of microwave meals here at Freezer Meal Frenzy, there are certain items that just don’t reach their full potential when heated this way. For example, we’d recently tried Udi’s Sausage, Egg & Cheese Breakfast Burrito, and we weren’t completely onboard with its post-microwave state. While it tasted okay, the shell got soggy to the point where it kind of reminded us of our fingers after soaking in a pool for too long. You can see what we mean in the image below.

That doesn’t look too appetizing, does it?

The filling, however, was tasty enough that we wanted to give this gluten-free breakfast a second chance. So we decided to try it again, this time letting the burrito thaw overnight in the refrigerator, then wrapping it in tinfoil and cooking it in the oven at 400 degrees Fahrenheit.

As you can see, the shell came out looking much better this time around. We should point out that it still was a little soggy on the bottom, which caused it to stick to the tin foil. So it wasn’t perfect, but it was better than the one we’d microwaved.

The filling still has a decent taste, though it’s a bit drier than we’d have liked. Still, having a slightly browned, slightly crisped shell instead of a pale, soggy one really makes a difference here.  If you decide to try this burrito for yourself, we definitely recommend skipping the microwave and heating it up in the oven. It takes a lot more time, but the results are worth it.
