Devour Pulled Chicken Burrito Bowl Review

Devour Pulled Chicken Burrito Bowl

We’re really growing to love Devour’s frozen food lineup. Their White Cheddar Mac & Cheese left us more than impressed, and their Buffalo Chicken Mac & Cheese is one of the best-tasting frozen meals we’ve had. But how does their food faire when they stray away from mac and cheese — or even pasta in general? We here at Freezer Meal Frenzy thought we’d find out by taking their Pulled Chicken Burrito Bowl for a test drive.

What sets this dish apart from some of the lesser southwest-inspired meals we’ve tried is the sheer quality of the ingredients. Devour isn’t content to serve you a quick and easy meal; they want to take you out for a fancy dinner.

The pulled chicken pieces are pretty small, but they have a melt-in-your-mouth-yet-still-somehow-chewy consistency and they’re loaded with flavor. Many frozen food creators fail right out of the gate by building chicken dishes around low-quality chicken. That’s a mistake that Devour refuses to make.

The veggies are great too. The beans have a fresh flavor and consistency, and they lack that gross dry crunch that over-frozen beans tend to get. The bits of corn taste like they came straight off the cob. We’re not sure how Devour managed to preserve the flavor so well through the freezing process, but they did and we love it. Even the diced tomato bits, which are rare but still present — have a nice, ripe flavor.

The rice on its own isn’t anything special, but it’s really hard to get any of it on its own because this dish is so packed with other ingredients. Plus, it’s topped with cheese and chili sauce, which mixes into the dish to provide every bite with kick. We didn’t necessarily expect this to be spicy, but we found our sinuses clearing out about halfway through the meal.

This isn’t the most diet-friendly southwest dish we’ve tried, but even so, its 450 calories (140 from fat) aren’t all that bad — especially when compared with some of Devour’s other dishes. The sodium content is pretty high though, at 950 mg.

With their Pulled Chicken Burrito Bowl, Devour continues the trend of impressing us with every bite.
