The staff at Freezer Meal Frenzy tends to enjoy Lean Cuisine’s pasta line quite a bit. For example, their Spicy Penne Arrabbiata is one of their finest dishes, and their Classic Five Cheese Lasagna is far better than we’d expected. But our love of Lean Cuisine pasta doesn’t always extend beyond their red sauce dishes.
So we tampered our expectations before diving into their Alfredo Pasta with Chicken & Broccoli. Thankfully, this dish delivers on its promises.
First and foremost, let’s talk about the chicken. Lean Cuisine’s chicken can be hit or miss, but in this dish we found it to be quite good. It’s tender and moist and has a great flavor. Plus, Lean Cuisine is fairly generous with the chicken portion here, so there’s plenty of it to go around.
The broccoli is great as well, with a surprisingly fresh taste to it.
The sauce, however, is where the flaws begin to show. It doesn’t have a lot of flavor, and this is compounded by the fact that there just isn’t enough of it to cover all the noodles. Whenever you get a bite with chicken or broccoli in it, the overall taste seems to balance out. But when you get a bite with just noodles, you’ll probably feel a little disappointed.
We certainly can’t complain about the calorie count. At 280 calories (and only 35 from fat), this dish is diet-friendly. Of course, the sodium is a little high at 600 mg, but we’ve definitely had frozen meals with quite a bit more than that. Still, if you’re trying to watch your sodium levels, that’s something you’ll want to keep in mind.
Lean Cuisine’s Alfredo Pasta with Chicken & Broccoli didn’t blow us away, but it’s pretty good. In fact, we liked it better than their Chicken Fettuccini, which is the closest dish we can think of to compare this to. If you liked that one, give the Alfredo Pasta a try.
