Good Food Made Simple Lemon Chicken Review

Good Food Made Simple Lemon Chicken

Good Food Made Simple has some real gems in their frozen food catalog. Their Buffalo Style Chicken Mac & Cheese, for example, is a tasty treat, and they make a killer breakfast.

The Lemon Chicken won’t end up on a list of those “gems,” but it’s certainly worth trying.

The overall flavor is… well… interesting. It has a potent lemon bite that makes its way into every square inch of this meal. We expected some roasted chicken that was maybe seasoned with a tiny little squirt of lemon juice. Instead, that lemon is vehemently, relentlessly the centerpiece of this dish, at least from a flavor perspective.

Now, that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Lemon enthusiasts will be tripping over each other to get a bite of this particular meal. But we do have to warn you that the lemon overload can come as a bit of a shock if you’re not expecting it.

The cavatappi noodles are by far our favorite part of this dish. They’re nice and spiraly, of course, and they have a great texture. In fact, we can see how they were probably intended to offset the potency of the lemon a bit — a feat that ended up being too much for them.

This meal is absolutely drowning in kale, which was actually a very smart choice of greens here. The only problem we have with it is that the stems can be a bit too firm, making them a bit hard to swallow. We ended up picking most of them out of our bowl.

There are a few large pieces of chicken nesting in this pile of kale and noodles, but there just isn’t as much as we expect from a dish with the word chicken as 50% of its title. But that ends up being okay, because the meat portion of this dish isn’t that great anyway. In fact, this would have been better as a meatless dish.

Oh, and we should point out that there were some black olives in the mix as well, but we hardly noticed. They certainly weren’t this dish’s most prominent feature.

Good Food Made Simple’s Lemon Chicken feels more like a failed experiment than a fully formed meal. For someone out there, we imagine this could end up being their new favorite food. Of course, they would have to love lemons more than pretty much anyone we’d ever met. For anyone else, it’s worth a try just to say you’ve done it, but we don’t imagine this will become a staple of Good Food Made Simple’s frozen food lineup.
