Healthy Choice is good at taking a classic meal and removing one ingredient to significantly reduce the calorie count. Their Crustless Chicken Pot Pie, for example, removes the crust from a pot pie and leaves the filling. With the Grilled Chicken & Broccoli Alfredo, which we’re reviewing today, Healthy Choice took the pasta out of an alfredo dish and left the chicken and broccoli.
Like other Healthy Choice meals, this one keeps the main portion of the meal — the chicken and broccoli here — hovering above the sauce in a plastic colander while it’s cooking. So you just pull it out of the microwave, dump the colander into the sauce below, and give it a good stir. Then it’s ready to eat!
It comes out looking a little chunkier than the package, but otherwise it looks alright.
Now, steamed broccoli has a lot of flavor, and it’s overwhelmingly the main course here. If you don’t like steamed broccoli, you might want to pass on this dish. For everyone else, the flavor is nice and fresh, and the consistency is great — the stems have a bit of firmness to them.
If you can manage to separate a chunk out, the chicken actually has a rich flavor as well. It’s a white meat, but it’s juicy and has a little bit of a hint of seasoning. You can taste the subtle hints of grilling too, which is nice.
The best way to enjoy this meal is to get a piece of chicken and a piece of broccoli on your fork at the same time, then swish them around in the alfredo sauce at the bottom of the dish, then pop it all into your mouth. It’s a great mix.
Healthy Choice’s Grilled Chicken & Broccoli Alfredo is a simple dish, but that really works for it. At a measly 190 calories, it’s pretty hard to complain about those missing noodles.
