The Freezer Meal Frenzy staff loves chickpeas, and we love Tandoor Chef even more. Although their Channa Masala isn’t the best meal that Tandoor Chef has to offer, it’s still an extremely tasty dish. Here’s a quick overview of this gluten-free frozen meal.

As you can see in the image below, this dish has a soupy consistency. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing — lots of curries are soup-like — but it does mean you’re better off eating it with a spoon than with a fork. We also recommend stirring it before you dig in; the ingredients aren’t mixed very well.

Tandoor Chef Chana Masala

The channa masala we’ve had at restaurants has typically been rich and spicy, but this version of it doesn’t really fit into either of those categories. It’s certainly savory, but it tastes more like a thick tomato stew than anything else. You can taste some of the spices, like the turmeric, but the flavor isn’t very strong.

Thankfully, the delicious chickpeas keep this from being a so-so dish. From texture to taste, the chickpeas are absolutely amazing — they really bring the quality of the dish up a notch. If you were to add a few more spices to this dish, like some coriander or cumin, this would be nearly perfect.

We don’t love the Channa Masala quite as much as some other Tandoor Chef offerings, but we would still recommend this Indian meal. If you’re looking for gluten-free or vegan frozen meals, you’ll definitely want to check this meal out.
