Lean Cuisine Pomegranate Chicken Review

Lean Cuisine Pomegranate Chicken

Sometimes, you just need a quick lunch with a minimal amount of calories. Lean Cuisine’s Pomegranate Chicken is an attempt to fill that niche with a lightweight chicken meal that weighs in at a measly 180 calories (and just 25 from fat).

This is by no means a complex meal. It’s just some grilled strips of chicken tossed in a dish with some green beans and yellow carrots. All of this comes soaked in a pomegranate sauce.

Now, don’t expect the immaculate stir fry pictured on the package. This thing comes out of the microwave looking a little sad. The green beans are shrivelled, the chicken looks like it may have been sitting out for too long, and there are very few of the promised yellow onions. The sauce is an unappealing brown instead of the delectable reddish brown on the package.

That wouldn’t necessarily be a problem if this didn’t taste exactly how it looks.

The chicken is a weird blend between soggy and dry; any piece that isn’t falling apart because it’s sopping wet is somehow too dry. There is no middle ground. Plus, the pomegranate sauce simply isn’t a great complement.

The sauce also doesn’t mix well with the green beans, which are otherwise the highlight of this dish. These are two flavors that just don’t go well together. The green beans could have been salvaged had there been some sort of barrier in the tray that kept the sauce and chicken separated from the veggies, but there’s not. You’ll have to suffer through your pomegranate-flavored green beans.

And, as we mentioned before, there really isn’t enough yellow carrot for us to even comment on it. It’s barely even there.

And, worst of all, this meal will not leave you feeling full, so you’ll probably end up eating more food anyway.

Lean Cuisine’s Pomegranate Chicken is a meal for those who don’t care about taste and just want something with very few calories. But even so, there are better diet-friendly frozen meals out there. At just 50 calories more, you could be enjoying Healthy Choice’s Creamy Spinach and Tomato Linguini, for example. This low-calorie Lean Cuisine meal doesn’t hold a candle to that linguine.
