So Right Teriyaki Chicken Stir Fry Review

So Right Teriyaki Chicken Stir Fry

We’ve said this before, but the idea of eating a frozen meal out of a cardboard box seemed a little strange to us until we remembered that we’d eaten Chinese takeout from a cardboard box several times. Whether you think it’s weird or not, So Right’s Teriyaki Chicken Stir Fry continues the trend of offering an Asian meal in a cardboard box.

The chicken here is apparently white meat, though you’re going to have to take the package’s word for that. The chicken in our meal was scarce, the chunks were small, and they looked weird. This chicken is a bit stale and dry, even when it’s soaked in teriyaki sauce.

The teriyaki sauce here is nothing special. It has a little bit of that classic brown sugar sweetness to it, but for the most part it’s pretty bland.

There’s a fair amount of vegetable content here, including snap peas, red bell peppers, and water chestnuts. None of them is very fresh, though the snap peas probably hold up the best.

The brown rice looks smashed and unappealing. It also tastes like cardboard. You might argue that this is a result of this meal being served in a cardboard box, but we don’t think it is. We think this is just bad rice. It wouldn’t have been so noticable if the teriyaki sauce weren’t so bland, because we could have just mixed the rice into the extra sauce and everything would have been fine.

This meal has a fair amount of calories, at 310 (60 form fat). While it’s not as diet-friendly as some frozen meals, it’s not going to completely ruin a diet or anything. Of course, the 840 mg of sodium is pretty high. While that’s to be expected from a frozen meal — especially an Asian-inspired one — we do want to warn you before you send your body into some kind of sodium shock.

The So Right Teriyaki Stir Fry is a pretty mediocre take on what’s normally a delicious Asian meal. If you find the idea of eating Asian food out of a cardboard box to be appealing, you’re better off running out for Chinese takeout than heating up this unimpressive frozen food.
