A staple of the faux meat world, veggie nuggets — or chik’n nuggets as they’re often called — can be a real treat. They’re a great finger food that even vegetarians can enjoy, and even meat-eaters can chomp them down without complaint.
As one of the go-to brands for vegetarian meat substitutes, Boca has their own take on this classic with the Original Chik’n Veggie Nuggets. These little guys are made of soy protein, so no chickens were harmed in the production of this food item.
One serving is supposed to be about four nuggets, but we prefer to go all out and cook up six to eight at a time.
These don’t have quite as much flavor as some of the other veggie nuggets we’ve tried — especially Morningstar Farms’, which are fantastic. These also aren’t as rounded on the edges, which makes them feel fake. We know that technically they are fake, but many other companies do better to maintain the illusion with rounded edges. These feel like they came out of a machine.
These definitely need a dipping sauce of some sort, like a nice bbq sauce or a honey mustard, otherwise they’re a bit bland. They definitely work better as a nice solid base for a great sauce rather than something that can be eaten on its own.
Thankfully, these don’t get dried out inside, even when heating them in the oven, so they have a great consistency.
While we love veggie nuggets when they’re done right, Boca’s Original Chik’n Veggie Nuggets aren’t our favorites. They don’t hold up when compared against MorningStar Farms’ take on the same meal. Then again, if your goal is to drench these in some kind of sauce, then the differences in quality tend to melt away.
