Sweet Earth Cubano Empanada Review

Sweet Earth Cubano Empanada

We haven’t had a lot of luck with Sweet Earth’s empanadas. We thought the La Mancha Empanada was incredibly bland, and we found the Fandango Empanada to be a mushy mess. So our expectations weren’t very high when we sat down to eat the Sweet Earth Cubano Empanada. Thankfully, we weren’t let down a third time. This tiny empanada is a bite-sized delight.

Like Sweet Earth’s other empanadas, this stuffed pastry is on the small side. If you’re feeling ravenous, this tiny meal might not be enough to satiate your hunger. That said, this itty-bitty meal has a whopping 15 grams of protein. It’s pretty filling for such a tiny meal.

Sweet Earth Cubano Empanada

This empanada is stuffed to the brim with flavor. The gooey melted Swiss cheese really enhances the flavor of Sweet Earth’s “Harmless Ham.” It’s a pretty simple meal — it mostly consists of faux ham and cheese — but the sweet and savory Swiss is more than good enough to stand on its own.

Little details, like a pinch of maple syrup, make this feel like a breakfast sandwich. It reminds us of Sweet Earth’s Ham, Egg & Swiss Breakfast Sandwich, which is equally delicious, though we found the Harmless Ham to be a lot more palatable when served in small chunks, as it is in this empanada.

This meal is a little high in calories, especially when you consider its size. It has 360 calories in total, and more than half of those calories come from fat. However, the healthy helping of cheese makes those calories feel worthwhile. We savored every last bite of this dish, and we think you will too.
