DiGiorno Personal Pepperoni Pizza Review

27DiGiorno Personal Pepperoni Pizza

We’ve tried a fairly hefty amount of DiGiorno’s pizzas, but we realized we still haven’t weighed in on the Traditional Crust Pepperoni Pizza. And what could be more classic than a pepperoni pizza?

Yes, this is long, long overdue, but today we’re finally checking out the DiGiorno Personal Pepperoni Pizza.

This pizza comes with a crisping tray built into the box so you can cook it in the microwave. We didn’t have much trouble ripping the box along the perforated edges and folding it into a usable perch for the tray. We should point out, however, that unlike some of the more elegant crisping solutions out there, DiGiorno’s is one that has caused us some annoyance in the past.

But once this thing cooks for three short minutes, it’s ready to eat!

Now, the most obvious thing to compare this to is DiGiorno’s thin-crust version of the pepperoni pizza. The one we’re trying today obviously has thicker crust, but this crust is even thicker than we expected. We want to say this feels more like a pan pizza than a traditional-crust pizza. This crust is very thick and very doughy.

Even though the personal-size version of this pizza was designed with microwaves in mind, it seems like this might come out better using the traditional oven instructions. That would almost certainly take care of that doughiness.

Other than that, we don’t have much else to say about flavor that we haven’t said before. This has the great sauce and great pepperoni that you’d expect from a DiGiorno pizza.

The box claims a pizza is two servings. We’re rolling our eyes at that, because who eats half a personal pizza? This thing is tiny! Of course, the reason this is split in two is that a full pizza contains 730 calories and 1,350 mg of sodium. When you cut that in half, it seems much more reasonable.

We’ve said this before, but we really hate it when frozen food manufacturers use tricks like these to make it seem like their meals are healthier than they actually are. We’re okay with cutting a meal into two servings when it makes sense, but here a whole pizza — not half of one — is obviously intended to be a serving.

The DiGiorno Personal Pepperoni Pizza is a calorie-loaded beast of a pizza. It tastes delicious, but you’re really going to have to make some sacrifices if you want to eat this while maintaining a healthy daily calorie limit. Of course, you could always opt for the thin-crust version, which has considerably less calories than this one.
