Devour’s Buffalo Chicken Mac & Cheese is one of our favorite frozen foods. So we were pretty excited to learn that they made a sandwich version of this meal, the Buffalo Chicken Grilled Cheese. Obviously, we had to try it as soon as we possibly could.
Like so many other frozen sandwiches on the market, this contains a crisping tray to prevent it from getting soggy in the microwave. You’ll have to fold the box to create a little platform for it, but the tray is a separate unit not built into the box. Thankfully, the box isn’t difficult to tear or fold. The cook time is a brief two minutes and 40 seconds.
Now, this actually doesn’t get as crispy as we hoped. The bread is a little sticky and damp, and maybe even a little doughy. It doesn’t taste bad, but the texture is definitely not quite right. We’d actually suggest heating this in a toaster oven rather than a microwave if you have the option. (And we actually tried this! The red sauce that looks like ketchup in the picture on the box is actually buffalo sauce. This sauce is applied directly to the bread, while the cheese and chicken are on top. So when you stack the two pieces of bread, you create a multilevel sandwich.
There’s an ample amount of sauce here, and it tastes great. As far as we can tell, this is the same delicious buffalo sauce used in the mac and cheese, and it’s a good as ever. It has a real kick to it as well, so this is not a sandwich for spice-ophobes.
Then there’s the chicken. This is a high-quality chicken, so it’s juicy and rich. Plus, there’s some mozzarella cheese to complete the sandwich, which is the perfect choice here.
While Devour’s frozen meals are known for being tasty, they’re not known for being healthy. This sandwich is no exception, containing 520 calories (170 from fat). We’ve always seen Devour’s food as cheat day treats rather than everyday staples, and this sandwich falls right in line with that concept.
The Devour Buffalo Chicken Grilled Cheese sandwich is very tasty; we just wish it were a little more filling. When the calorie count is this high, you can’t afford to feel hungry when you’re done eating this.
