Trader Joe’s Vegetable Panang Curry with Jasmine Rice Review

Trader Joe's Vegetable Panang Curry with Jasmine Rice

Our reviewers have been very impressed by the quality of Trader Joe’s curry. After enjoying their amazing Yellow Jackfruit Curry, we’ve eagerly been looking for more curry options in their frozen food section. When we saw the Trader Joe’s Vegetable Panang Curry with Jasmine Rice, we knew we had to give it a try.

Like the Jackfruit Curry, the rice and the curry sauce come in separate segments of the tray. Trader Joe’s recommends that you combine the rice and sauce into a bowl and blend the two before eating. We’d offer the same recommendation. Things will get a bit messy if you try to eat everything straight from the tray.

Trader Joe’s has mastered the art of microwave rice. This jasmine rice is incredibly fluffy; you’d never know it was heated in a microwave unless someone told you. Per their recommendation, we fluffed the rice after a few minutes of cook time. The rice wasn’t sticky or chewy at all; it really couldn’t have been any better.

The Panang sauce doesn’t quite compare to the yellow curry sauce in their Jackfruit Curry, but it’s still quite tasty. The combination of the coconut milk and Thai chili is really interesting. The chili gave the sauce some heat, but the coconut milk helped to cool things back down. We also appreciated the sheer variety of vegetables in this dish. There’s a little bit of everything, from zucchini to baby corn to asparagus.

What we weren’t impressed with was the calorie count of this dish. It contains a whopping 590 calories, along with 15 grams of saturated fat. That’s really high for a vegetable-based meal. Even though it’s loaded with calories, we found the meal to be a bit light. This is a nice treat if you’re craving curry, but it’s not the best thing to eat if you’re watching your calorie intake closely. There are other Trader Joe’s meals that give you more for your calories.

Even though Trader Joe’s Vegetable Panang Curry isn’t the most filling frozen food on the market, it’s still quite tasty. If you can spare the calories, we think you’ll love it!
