Boomerang’s Pepperoni Pie Review

Boomerang's Pepperoni Pie

We’re big fans of Boomerang’s pot pies here at Freezer Meal Frenzy. We never expected that to be a controversial opinion, but if you check out the comments section on our review of the Boomerang’s Steak and Potato Pie, you’ll find some controversy indeed.

Now, we’re not going to comment any further on that (besides to say that you’re entitled to your own opinion, and we acknowledge that we’re not always going to agree with everybody). Instead, we want to dive into Boomerang’s Pepperoni Pie to see how it tastes.

One thing we like about Boomerang’s Aussie-inspired pies is that they are very easy to heat. You don’t even have to take them out of the box first — simply crack open the side of the package and throw it into the microwave for three and a half minutes. The box has a built-in crisping shield to prevent the top from getting soggy, and you don’t even have to do any folding or tearing for it to work.

And that crisping shield really seems to work. The top of this pie gets dry and flakey, which is how a good pot pie crust should be. And it tastes great too.

The filling actually gives this a pizza-like quality. It’s mostly tomato sauce, with some mozzarella cheese and some pepperoni thrown in for good measure — this is basically a pepperoni pizza crammed inside a pot pie crust.

The pepperoni is chopped up into tiny little squares, so if you eat this pot pie too quickly, you might not even notice it’s there. If you do take the time to dig through the filling and pick out a piece, you’ll find that it tastes pretty good, though we wouldn’t exactly call it remarkable. It has a decent pepperoni flavor with a little bit of spice for good measure.

One comment we’ve seen a lot when it comes to Boomerang’s pies is that they don’t have a ton of filling (and this is especially obvious when you compare them against something like Trader Joe’s Stout & Steak Pies). If that’s a complaint you have about this brand in general, we don’t think this particular pie will win you over. While we think it has a decent amount of filling, we can definitely understand why people would want more. This isn’t the most filling pie on the market.

And that brings us to the calorie count. For a pie that might not fill you up, this does have quite a few calories, at 420 (160 from fat). That’s a bit higher than we’d like to see.

The Boomerang’s Pepperoni Pie is a delicious meal if you can get past the calorie count. We would have liked it to be just a little bit more filling, but the flavor is amazing and the texture is perfection.
