Trader Joe’s Coffee Mochi with a Saucy Mocha Center Review

Trader Joe's Coffee Mochi

Even though mochi, a type of rice cake, is a staple in the east, it’s not that popular in the western world. Luckily, Trader Joe’s is doing what they can to introduce the world to these delicacies. The Trader Joe’s Coffee Mochi with a Saucy Mocha Center is a tasty (and dairy-free!) bit of frozen goodness.

A single box comes with six mochi, which means you’ll have more than enough of these goodies to go around. Each mochi is fairly large, which means a single serving should be enough to satisfy. Because the mochi are frozen, they’re a little tricky to remove from the packaging; you may want to let your mochi thaw a bit before you try to scoop it out of the box.

If you’ve never had mochi before, you might find the texture to be a bit of a shock. Mochi is made with gelatinous rice, which means it has a strange, almost rubbery texture to it. The closest thing we can think to compare it to are the tapioca pearls found in boba tea.

The mochi is made with coconut milk rather than cow’s milk, giving it an appealing flavor that pairs nicely with the coffee powder. While the coffee section of the mochi is quite delicious, the real highlight is the saucy mocha center. The mocha sauce is sweet and rich, contrasting nicely with the slight bitterness of the coffee. You’ll definitely want to savor these bits.
