Amy’s Organic Spicy Chili Review

Amy's Organic Spicy Chili

There are few foods that are as perfect on a cold day as chili, especially if the chili is spicy. A bowl of hot chili can warm us when the weather is freezing. Amy’s Organic Spicy Chili called out to us as soon as we saw it on the grocery store shelves; we knew that this was one chili we had to try.

Now, as you may have noticed, this isn’t a frozen meal. Since Amy’s has a large line of frozen products, we’ve been reviewing their canned soups as well. This is definitely a product line Amy’s fans will want to check out!

If you’re ravenously hungry and looking for a fast meal, this chili is probably a great fit for you. We heated it in the microwave, and we were ready to dig in after just two minutes. The can even has a pull tab, which means you don’t have to use a can opener to get it open!

While many chili dishes are tomato-based, this chili is tomato-free. This means that this meal is all about the beans.

The organic red beans are thick and flavorful. They’ve got a pleasant earthy taste that help make this chili feel particularly hearty. The ground chunks that look like meat are actually pieces of organic tofu. It might not be a perfect replica for ground beef, but we think that this chili will please meat eaters and vegetarians alike!

Is it as spicy as advertised? No, not really. There’s a hint of spiciness to it, and it definitely isn’t bland, but it doesn’t have the level of fire we’d expect from a spicy chili. Even though this chili isn’t flaming hot, we think it’d be even tastier with a dollop of your favorite sour cream.

The one drawback to this chili is the calorie content. According to Amy’s, there are two servings per can, which means an entire can has 620 calories. Thankfully, the full can is filling enough to eat on its own, and a half can can be supplemented with some low-calorie sides.

On the label, Amy’s describes chili as “fun food.” When the chili tastes as good as this one does, we have to agree! Amy’s Organic Spicy Chili may not be as spicy as advertised, but it’s an incredibly taste chili that’s vegan and vegetarian-friendly. Like Amy’s Kitchen says, this should satisfy chili lovers everywhere!
