Gardein Classic Meatless Meatballs Review

Gardein Classic Meatless Meatballs

While many people associate meatballs with Italian cuisine, they’re actually something that is enjoyed all over the globe. In fact, the oldest known meatball recipe comes from China. If you like ball-shaped foods, but aren’t so big on meat, Gardein’s here to help — the Gardein Classic Meatless Meatballs are the perfect meatball replacement.

Gardein recommends cooking these meatballs in a sauce so that they have the opportunity to soak up plenty of flavor. We wanted to make sure we got a nice picture for our readers, so we switched things up a bit, browning these meatballs in a skillet before tossing them into a pot of spicy tomato sauce. It’s easy to cook these balls while you’re making something else, like spaghetti.

Unless they’re absolutely slathered in sauce, these faux meatballs aren’t going to convince carnivores that they’re eating the real deal. These meatless balls are yummy, but you can tell they’re plant-based. They taste a lot like wheat, actually, which makes sense considering that they’re made from wheat gluten.

Still, the texture is excellent, and once you’ve got them on a meatball sub or in a bowl of spaghetti, you won’t be bothered by the differences. Gardein says that the serving size is three meatballs, which we thought seemed a little small at first. After we dug in, though, we realized that these are incredibly filling. Toss a few of these balls into a low-protein meal, and you won’t have to eat again for a while.

Gardein Classic Meatless Meatballs are a versatile product that we can see ourselves using in a lot of different dishes. Sure, they don’t taste just like authentic meatballs, but we don’t need them to. They’re a great substitute, and they’re a handy thing to have in your freezer if you don’t eat meat.
