Red’s Organic Chicken, Cilantro & Lime Burrito Review

Red's Organic Chicken, Cilantro & Lime Burrito

Not all that long ago, we reviewed the Red’s Chicken, Cilantro & Lime rice bowl, and we weren’t all that impressed. Sure, the quality of the ingredients was very high, but the majority of the dish was rice. We couldn’t help thinking that this flavor combo would have been better inside a burrito. Well, Red’s frozen burrito lineup contains the very thing we were looking for: the Red’s Chicken, Cilantro & Lime Burrito. When we saw this at our local grocery store, we knew we had to try it right away.

Now, Red’s burritos are always a little bit of work to get just right. See, the oven instructions — which we prefer — actually require the use of both the oven and the microwave. We’ve explained the process in detail elsewhere, so we won’t do it again here. We’ll just say that it’s more complicated than you’d expect a frozen burrito to be.

As you can see in our image below, our burrito didn’t survive the process all that well. The middle exploded at some point while it was in the oven. However, while it doesn’t look like much, it tastes absolutely fantastic.

After our first bite, we were willing to say for certain that the burrito version of this meal is far superior to the rice bowl version. Part of that is due to the ooey-gooey cheese, while a big portion of the credit should probably go to the perfect amount of lime juice. This thing tastes fantastic, with a nice citrusy bite to it. We love it.

The package claims that this burrito uses certified free-roam chickens. We’re glad those birds had a good life, because we’d otherwise feel a little bit sad about talking about how darn tasty they are. There’s not a ton of chicken in this burrito, but there’s enough that you’ll appreciate the quality.

Aside from that, you’ve got some standard ingredients, like some corn, beans, and rice. None of it is too astonishing on its own, but since it’s all mixed into the cheese sauce and the lime juice, every single bite of this burrito is fantastic.

If you’re able to eat just one of these, the calorie content is pretty okay — 270 calories (80 from fat). However, we doubt just one burrito will fill you up. We usually eat two frozen burritos at a time, and once in a while we’ll make up a third just to be sure. Those calories really start adding up.

The Red’s Chicken, Cilantro & Lime Burrito is a wonderful thing. While we do wish it had fewer calories, we certainly can’t complain about the flavor. This is a seriously tasty snack.
