Red’s Philly Steak & Cheese Burrito Review

Red's Philly Steak & Cheese Burrito

Sometimes the craving for a frozen burrito is just too much to bear. In fact, this exact craving is what led to the creation of Freezer Meal Frenzy. So it should go without saying that we were pretty darn excited to try out the Red’s Philly Steak & Cheese Burrito.

Before we dig into this lovely burrito, we should point out that Red’s burritos are a little bit complicated to cook if you decide to use the oven. See, you’ll have to preheat your oven to 375 degrees fahrenheit first. While that’s warming up, cover your burrito with a plate and defrost it in the microwave for about a minute. Then, plop the burrito onto a baking sheet and cook it in the oven for about 12-14 minutes. It’s not a difficult process by any means; it’s just a bit more complex than your average frozen burrito.

Now that all that cooking business is taken care of, let’s jump in.

While some frozen beef burritos skimp on the beef portion, this one aims to please those with a serious beefsteak craving. In fact, a majority of what’s inside this shell is just pure beef.

Aside from that, you’ve got some cheese, which oozes all over the beef and completes the “Philly cheesesteak” style flavor. It’s a flavor combo that has stood the test of time, and we’re glad Red’s was so good about getting it right. On top of this, you’ll find chunks of green chile peppers. Perfect!

There’s just one complaint we have about this burrito: The shell is unusually thick. If you look up at our picture above, you’ll see that we’re not exaggerating when we say the shell takes up almost half the thickness of this burrito. That’s just too much tortilla!

If you’re planning on eating just one burrito, you might want to think twice. Even though this sucker is loaded with beef, it’s not all that filling. You could easily munch two of these in a sitting. And that means the 300 calories are actually a bit high. When you double that number, these burritos start to seem a bit less appealing, especially for those on strict diets.

The Red’s Philly Steak & Cheese Burrito isn’t our favorite item in the Red’s line, but it’s still worthy of its place there. As long as you don’t mind the calories — or the extra-thick shell — there’s a lot to love about this burrito.
