Gardein Teriyaki Chick’n Strips Review

Gardein Teriyaki Chick'n Strips

Traditionally, teriyaki sauce is made from soy sauce, mirin, ginger, and brown sugar. It’s a combination that we’ve always loved. While teriyaki sauce is frequently paired with chicken, there are some vegetarian alternatives out there. Instead of chowing down on teriyaki chicken, you can try the Gardein Teriyaki Chick’n Strips.

It only takes about five minutes to heat these strips on the stove, and it doesn’t require much effort. Because of their shape, we were able to cook the strips evenly with minimal problems. The teriyaki sauce that coats the strips came in a separate bag, which we were able to quickly thaw in a mug of hot water. If you’re serving these strips in a stir-fry, we think it’d be easy to cook everything in the same pan.

Like most of Gardein’s non-breaded meat products, this isn’t a convincing substitute for the real deal. The texture is softer, chewier, and less gritty than actual chicken. A lot of Gardein products are able to mimic the flavor of meat, but that’s not really the case here. These strips taste less like chunks of chicken and more like a product that’s been flavored with chicken broth.

A chicken-broth/teriyaki sauce combination might sound unappetizing, but these flavors actually work together pretty well. We enjoyed these strips in spite of their texture issues. We’d recommend putting them in a wrap alongside something crunchy, such as a nice slaw. With the right ingredients, you won’t even notice that these strips are chewy.

The Gardein Teriyaki Chick’n Strips might not be the best choice for you if you’re looking for a convincing replacement for actual teriyaki chicken. However, if you’re looking for a tasty way to add extra protein to wraps, salads, and stir-fries, these strips will work nicely. They’re surprisingly delicious, they’re very filling, and they’re a cinch to prepare. It can’t hurt to have a bag of these strips in your freezer!
