Marie Callender’s Red Chili Grilled Chicken Burrito Bowl Review

Marie Callender's Red Chili Grilled Chicken Burrito Bowl

There are some truly amazing frozen burrito bowls on the market these days. From the chef-inspired Frontera bowls to the Devour Pulled Chicken Burrito Bowl, there is no shortage of high-quality options to choose from. With the Red Chili Grilled Chicken Burrito Bowl, the folks at Marie Callender’s throw their collective hat into an already crowded ring. Does this stand up to the competition, or is this merely a low-quality imitator? We grabbed our forks and dove into this meal to answer that very question.

This is an easy meal to heat; it will take around five minutes in the microwave. (You can see the full cooking instructions by checking out the package scans at the bottom of this article.)

This burrito bowl comes out a little soupy. It will thicken up a little bit as it cools, but even so, this meal goes a little overboard with the sauce. That’s not necessarily the worst problem in the world — the sauce is pretty tasty, and it has a little kick to it — but it means this has more of a chili consistency than you’d expect from a burrito bowl.

This contains a pretty generous portion of white-meat chicken. The chicken is halfway decent, but it’s certainly not worth getting excited about. Some of the pieces actually feel more like tofu than chicken — they simply dissolve when you try to chew them — and there really isn’t a lot of flavor. This is possibly why Marie Callender’s chose to dump so much tomato-based sauce into this mix, so they could hide the fact that the chicken has very little flavor.

This also has some of the other things you’d expect to find in a burrito bowl: rice, black beans, and bell peppers. None of it is groundbreaking, and all of it ends up swimming in the sauce.

While this might not be a truly diet-friendly meal, its 360 calories are probably not enough to wreck a whole diet. However, the 850 mg of sodium might be something to watch out for if you’re trying to limit your sodium intake.

The Marie Callender’s Red Chili Grilled Chicken Burrito Bowl is nothing to get excited about. It will certainly do in a pinch, but there are so many better options out there that it’s hard to recommend a relatively uninteresting one.
