Lean Cuisine Origins Linguine with Ricotta & Spinach Meatless Meatballs Review

Lean Cuisine Origins Linguine with Ricotta & Spinach Meatless Meatballs

We don’t often re-review frozen food at Freezer Meal Frenzy, but if we notice an old favorite has gotten an update, we’re always glad to give it another look. We were a little excited when we saw the Lean Cuisine Origins Linguine with Ricotta & Spinach Meatless Meatballs had switched up its packaging. Last time we tried it, we described it as “a pleasure to eat.” Who wouldn’t want to eat something like that a second time?

Like virtually all Lean Cuisine meals, cooking this dish requires next to no effort. Toss it in the microwave, give it a stir, cook it for a little bit longer, and it’s ready to eat. It’s not exactly easy on the eyes, but let’s be real: no one eats Lean Cuisine because it’s pretty.

A quick comparison of the labels suggests that this dish is virtually unchanged from the original version of the meal. It still clocks in at a diet-friendly 260 calories, and it contains all the same ingredients. That does mean that it still contains egg and milk, making it a vegetarian-but-non-vegan meal.

The highlight of this dish is absolutely the faux meatballs. It’s still hard to believe how good they are. They fall apart at the mere touch of a fork, but the flavor is incredible and unlike any other meatball substitute we’ve tried. They have this wonderful creaminess to them that complements the pasta and tomato sauce perfectly. If Lean Cuisine ever decides to sell these meatballs on their own, we’ll stockpile them.

The rest of the dish is fine, if unremarkable. Lean Cuisine’s tomato sauce is usually a little sweet for our tastes, but the meal isn’t overly saucy. The linguine noodles have an al dente texture that we really like. It’s a forgettable frozen pasta that is really elevated by the spectacular meatballs. If you’re not excited about tasty fake meatballs, you can pass on this dish.

If the Lean Cuisine Origins Linguine with Ricotta & Spinach Meatless Meatballs is a favorite of yours, you’ll keep on enjoying the newly repackaged version. If you’ve never tried this dish, we’d definitely recommend giving it a shot. Even if you’re not vegetarian, you’ll probably be impressed by how delicious these spinach-and-cheese balls are.
