InnovAsian Crispy Teriyaki Chicken Review

InnovAsian Crispy Teriyaki Chicken

While we don’t love absolutely everything InnovAsian puts out, we’ve been pretty happy with the brand’s frozen food so far. Their Vegetable Fried Rice, for example, is quite delicious. So today we’re thrilled to be checking out the InnovAsian Crispy Teriyaki Chicken. We love teriyaki chicken, so we’re really expecting a lovely treat here.

There are several ways you can cook this: in the oven, on a stovetop, or in the microwave. We opted for the oven, hoping that would give us the crispiest chicken possible (though we recently tried the Crispy Kung Pao Chicken and found it to be less crispy than expected). No matter which method you choose, you’ll need to thaw the included sauce packet in a cup of water (as shown below). We mentioned in the previous paragraph that the Crispy Kung Pao Chicken wasn’t as crispy as we would have expected. Well, it seems like InnovAsian really overcompensated for that by making the Crispy Teriyaki Chicken especially crispy. Seriously, this stuff gets so crispy around the edges that it can be difficult to impale a piece with a fork. If the crisp factor is a thing you crave, you’ll definitely want to check out this chicken.

As you can see in the image below, InnovAsian did not dial back the amount of sauce they included with this meal. There’s an absolute boatload of sauce here. If you decide to serve this over rice (which we did) the rice will end up swimming in the sauce. There’s so much of it!

It tastes pretty good, with a very strong soy flavor with just a bit of sweetness (provided by pineapple juice concentrate). It’s a good mix of flavor, though it tastes a little vinegar-y, which is strange since there’s no vinegar in this sauce. It’s not a bad thing, mind you, but it is a little strange.

The box claims there are three servings inside, and we’d have to disagree unless you serve this over a pretty hefty side of rice. If you stick with just 1/3 of the package, you’ll be consuming 390 calories (100 from fat) and 970 mg of sodium. If you think that’s a lot, multiply that by 3 and see how much is in the full box. This is certainly no diet food!

The InnovAsian Crispy Teriyaki Chicken is designed for people who really like their chicken to be crispy. It tastes great, but it’s the crispiness that really stands out here. If you’re really looking to dial up the crispiness of your chicken, you’ll definitely want to try this. If you’d prefer your chicken to have just a subtle crunch to it, you’ll probably be better off with the InnovAsian Crispy Kung Pao Chicken instead.
