Trader Joe’s Organic Tomato Mozzarella Piccolo (Little) Pizza Review

Trader Joe's Organic Tomato Mozzarella Piccolo (Little) Pizza

Pizza is one of the great joys of life. It provides an almost endless amount of flavor combinations — from veggies to piles of meat, and even fruits like pineapple and peaches, just about any sort of food you think of can be put on a pizza if you combine it with the right stuff. Obviously, we’re always excited to check out more types of pizza. Today, we’re checking out the Trader Joe’s Organic Tomato Mozzarella Piccolo (Little) Pizza.

If you’ve ever seen a cartoon pizza before, then you’re surely familiar with the concept that round, red pieces on a pizza are usually pepperoni. So we can’t really blame you if you take a quick glance and this and think it has pepperoni on it. But if you look closer at the pizza (or just read the title on the box), you’ll realize that what initially looks like pepperoni is actually cherry tomatoes.

This pizza is fast and easy to make. Simply preheat your oven to 425 degrees fahrenheit, then pop the pizza in for 10 to 12 minutes. We left ours in for 13, and it came out pretty much perfect.

The crust here is pretty great. It has a good crisp to the outside, with a warm, soft inside. The outside has a powdery texture to it, and the overall flavor it good. That’s a positive thing here, because a vast majority of this pizza is crust. Seriously, the crust is like 3/4″ thick, and the toppings are just sort of placed on top of it.

The sauce is sweet and tomatoey, which is a good choice because it matches the tomato topping. If you’re ambivalent toward tomatoes, you might think this is just alright, but if you would be comfortable calling yourself a tomato fanatic, this is going to be right up your alley.

Aside from the mozzarella cheese, there’s really nothing else to this pizza. It’s a simple, tomatoey affair, and that’s just fine with us. You can get absolutely crazy with toppings on a pizza if you really want to (like the mac and cheese we mentioned earlier), but pizza doesn’t always need that. A good, simple pizza can stand up just fine on its own.

The box recommends half a pizza as a serving size, but we’re pretty sure you’re going to end up eating the whole thing. This is not very big. Half a pizza contains 340 calories and 670 mg of sodium, which means the full pizza has 680 calories and 1,340 mg of sodium. It’s a lot of calories and a ton of sodium, so keep that in mind if you plan on picking up one of these.

The Trader Joe’s Organic Tomato Mozzarella Piccolo (Little) Pizza is exactly what the name implies: a simple pizza that’s loaded with tomatoes. We really admire its simplicity, and the high-quality ingredients blend to create something that’s pretty darn tasty. Just be careful, because it’s not very filling and it has a ton of calories.
