Archer Farms Buffalo-Style Chicken Breast Strips Review

Archer Farms Buffalo-Style Chicken Breast Strips

Buffalo chicken is the best, isn’t it? Named after the city in New York, this breaded chicken scorcher is a staple of bars across the United States. For the homebodies out there, a boatload of frozen variations exist. In fact, some of our favorite frozen meals of all time contain buffalo chicken!

So obviously we were pretty excited about cracking open a big ol’ bag of Archer Farms Buffalo-Style Chicken Breast Strips. Archer Farms, in case you’re unfamiliar, is a food brand exclusive to Target.

These chicken bits are easy enough to cook. Preheat your oven to 400 degrees fahrenheit, toss the chicken on a baking sheet, then put the whole thing in the oven for 15-20 minutes. Easy peasy. You can also microwave these, but we have too much respect for buffalo chicken to do that. (You can read the full cooking instructions by checking out the package scans at the bottom of this article.)

Now, these are definitely not wings. First of all, they are made out of breast meat. Second, they come in pretty sizeable chunks. There were pieces inside our bag that would have made for an absolutely lovely buffalo chicken sandwich. Of course, there are smaller pieces inside as well, as you can see in our image below.

We heated ours for about 18 minutes, which is right in the middle of the recommended cook time, and we thought our chicken ended up a little bit dry. It was the smaller pieces where this was really a problem. The larger pieces were a little dry on the outside, but they stayed nice and juicy in the middle — where it really counts.

The flavor is great. The buffalo seasoning is craveable and delicious — if you have a buffalo chicken tooth rather than a sweet tooth, we think you’ll find this to be pretty satisfying.

Now, we feel like maybe we’re growing wimpier with age, but this chicken is very spicy. We found our sinuses were clearing and our mouths were burning as we munched our chicken bits. We’re tempted to say this is one of the spicier buffalo chicken products we’ve tried.

As true midwesterners, we were not going to finish this review without dunking a piece in ranch dressing. It’s the perfect dipping sauce, as it mitigates any of the dryness problems while dulling the spiciness a little bit. It also has a smooth, creamy taste that contrasts really well with buffalo seasoning.

According to the package, about 3 oz. of chicken is a serving. If you’re not into weighing your food (we’re admittedly not), that might be a little confusing. Apparently, it’s about 1/8 of a bag, which doesn’t seem like a ton to us. We think you could eat 1/4 of the bag in a sitting (which is pretty much what we did). If you stick with the bag’s recommendation, that ends up being 180 calories (70 from fat) and 760 mg of sodium. That’s not bad, but if you double it (like we did), those numbers get a little high — especially the sodium.

The Archer Farms Buffalo-Style Chicken Breast Strips will really suckerpunch a buffalo chicken craving. They’re spicy, they taste great, and they’re easy to cook. They also would be a perfect protein for a hot sandwich!
