Jimmy Dean Sausage & Gravy Breakfast Bowl Review

Jimmy Dean Sausage & Gravy Breakfast Bowl

While we wouldn’t exactly call ourselves huge fans of the Jimmy Dean line, we do appreciate many of their frozen breakfast foods (such as the Pancakes & Sausage on a Stick! and the Turkey Sausage, Egg White & Cheese Croissant Breakfast Sandwiches.) So we’re always happy to try more of their products when we get the opportunity.

Today we’re trying something that was a little bit hard to find, the Jimmy Dean Sausage & Gravy Breakfast Bowl. While we tend to see other varieties of Jimmy Dean breakfast bowls whenever we stop at a Target, this one’s been eluding us for a while now. Thankfully, we made a stop at a grocery store that we don’t often visit, which resulted in us finding this.

Like any Jimmy Dean product, this one is fast and simple to heat in any old microwave. This takes a total of three minutes, which is hardly anything. (If you want to see the full cooking instructions, check out our package scans at the bottom of this review.)

As you can see in the image above, there’s not a whole lot of food in this bowl. Perhaps that’s why the cook time is so short?

The bowl contains fluffy eggs, which taste decent but are a little watery, and chunks of roasted potatoes, which we actually found to be really tasty. There are little balls of breakfast-style sausage as well, and those have that snappy, spicy flavor that you would expect from a breakfast sausage link. It tastes good and the consistency is decent — this isn’t rubbery, like some of the other frozen breakfast sausage we’ve tried.

The thing that makes this breakfast bowl stand out, however, is the creamy country gravy. It’s not outstanding, by any means, but it’s pretty alright. It has a rich flavor that really ties this breakfast together.

This isn’t terrible, as far as calories go, but we think 350 calories is maybe just a tad too high for something that won’t fill you up. We knew this wasn’t going to be a filling meal just by looking at it, but now that we’ve tried it, we can confirm that this is indeed the case — plan on eating a side with this one.

The Jimmy Dean Sausage & Gravy Breakfast Bowl won’t leave you feeling full, but it’s still pretty tasty. The ingredients are all pretty decent, and the gravy really does add something special. We just wish there were a little bit more food in this bowl, because as it stands, we could probably eat two in a sitting without feeling like we’d just made a horrible mistake.
