Thick potato wedges served with steak is considered to be the national dish of Belgium! We don’t have any steak in the Freezer Meal Frenzy offices, but we did have a big bag of the 365 Everyday Value Steak Cut French Fries (available at Whole Foods). We haven’t always been impressed with 365 Everyday products, but we decided that these fries were worth a try.
We decided to cook up half a bag of fries, which took about 15 minutes in the oven. Oven fries are always pretty simple to make, but these fries are especially easy. Once the oven was heated up, all we really had to do was toss them in and watch the clock. When we took our fries out of the oven, they were perfectly browned.
The texture of these fries is absolutely perfect. They’re wonderfully crispy on the outside, but, because they’re so thick, there’s also plenty of soft potato goodness on the inside. They skew a little closer to “potato” than “French fry,” but that’s not a bad thing! They really taste like they were made from fresh potato slices.
While the bag proudly declares that these fries contain no added salt, we didn’t find them to be bland at all. We’d recommend dipping them in some sort of sauce (we used BBQ sauce) but even when we ate them plain, they were pretty tasty. We chose to eat them alongside our favorite frozen nuggets, but they’d taste great with a sandwich too, and they’d probably make an excellent complement to a steak.
The 365 Everyday Value Steak Cut French Fries probably aren’t comparable to the fries you can find in Belgian restaurants, but we still think they’re pretty good nonetheless. If you’re looking for meaty fries that you can serve as a side dish, you’ll definitely want to check these frozen fries out. They might be the best 365 Everyday Value product we’ve reviewed!
