Lunds & Byerlys Chili with Beans Review

Lunds & Byerlys Chili with Beans

We’ve tried several of the frozen foods in the Lunds & Byerlys lineup thus far, and it’s a trend we’d love to continue. They have a little bit of everything in their line, from frozen breakfasts to pizza to soup.

In case you’ve never encountered the brand, Lunds & Byerlys is a chain of upscale grocery stores located in the Twin Cities area in Minnesota. If you’re not in Minnesota, it’s likely you’ve never heard of it. Since our office is located in Minneapolis, we have easy access to L&B food, so we try to review it fairly often for our local readers.

Today we’re checking out the Lunds & Byerlys Chili with Beans. We’ve reviewed several of the soups in this line, and most of those have been vegetarian-friendly. This chili, however, is not for vegetarians or vegans — this one contains beef.

Since we’re on the topic of beef already, let’s talk about the meat portion of this chili. This chili contains beef, which is actually ground pretty finely. In fact, it’s ground so finely that it ends up a little bit gravelly, which we’re not necessarily huge fans of. It tastes fine, though — it just feels a little weird in our mouths.

The overall flavor of this chili is quite good. It’s tomato-based, but there’s a subtle sweetness underneath it all that really makes it stand out. When we took our first bite, we swore that there was some brown sugar in this chili, but we checked the ingredients list and found out we were wrong.

The beans are a lovely treat. They’re firm enough that they’re satisfying to bite into, but they end up pretty soft once you start chewing them. They’re a great addition to both the texture and the flavor of this dish.

As is so often the case with L&B soups and chilis, this one probably won’t fill you up. That means the 330 calories inside are a bit higher than ideal. If you can pair this with a light salad, that’s probably fine, but don’t make this part of a multi-course feast, or you’re going to find those calories piling on really fast.

The Lunds & Byerlys Chili with Beans is a really tasty chili for those who aren’t opposed to eating beef. This is one of those meals that will have you licking the bowl after you’re done eating it to make sure you get every last drop.
