Life Cuisine Meatless Lifestyle Vermont White Cheddar Mac & Broccoli Bowl Review

Life Cuisine Meatless Lifestyle Vermont White Cheddar Mac & Broccoli Bowl

We’ve never been shy about our love for macaroni and cheese. Homemade macaroni dishes will always be our favorite, but a decent frozen macaroni dish is a pretty solid substitute. Since mac & cheese is something we love to keep in our freezers, we thought the Life Cuisine Meatless Lifestyle Vermont White Cheddar Mac & Broccoli Bowl (by Lean Cuisine) was probably worth sampling.

Lean Cuisine meals are always pretty easy to make in the microwave, and this dish is no exception. If you’ve heated a Lean Cuisine meal up before, you’re probably familiar with the process. Cook for a few minutes, give it a stir, cook for a little longer, and it’s ready to eat.

As is the case with Lean Cuisine’s other mac & cheese dishes, this meal is a little bit bland. The sauce is nice and creamy, and we appreciate the crunch that the broccoli and panko crumbs provide, but the meal tastes like it hasn’t really been seasoned at all. This is a pretty easy problem to fix, but we do wish this had a little more straight flavor out of the box.

While we weren’t totally satisfied with the seasoning level, we have no complaints about the quality of the ingredients. The roux tastes like it was made with real cheese, and the perfectly-cooked pasta soaks up plenty of that cheese sauce. We also appreciate that the broccoli is on the crispier side; we’re not a fan of mushy microwaved veggies!

Lean Cuisine is known for making diet-friendly meals, but this dish contains 420 calories and 50 carbohydrates, making it a little heftier than most dishes in the Lean Cuisine line. While this mac and cheese bowl does contain 20 grams of protein, we didn’t find it to be especially filling.

The Life Cuisine Meatless Lifestyle Vermont White Cheddar Mac & Broccoli Bowl isn’t dramatically different from a standard Lean Cuisine mac. We appreciate the addition of broccoli and panko crumbs, but this is still a basic, slightly bland macaroni dish. If you’re not a fan of Lean Cuisine mac and cheese, this should be avoided. However, if Lean Cuisine’s frozen mac is of your go-to meals, you should definitely pick this up.
