Trader Joe’s Quinoa Cowboy Veggie Burgers with Black Beans & Roasted Corn Review

Trader Joe's Quinoa Cowboy Veggie Burgers with Black Beans & Roasted Corn

The Freezer Meal Frenzy staffers are big fans of quinoa, but we’re not sure how we feel about Quinoa Cowboys. Do they run quinoa farms? Rustle quinoa? No matter what they are, we’re always on the lookout for new vegetarian frozen foods, which is why we decided to check out the Trader Joe’s Quinoa Cowboy Veggie Burgers with Black Beans & Roasted Corn.

There are four patties in a box, and each one is individually wrapped in plastic. That’s definitely our preferred packaging when it comes to veggie burgers; it makes it much easier to cook a single burger at a time. Trader Joe’s actually recommends cooking these patties in the oven, but we decided we’d heat up ours on the stovetop instead.

We often find that following cooking instructions to the letter leaves us with patties that are slightly burnt. Trader Joe’s recommends heating this for 7 minutes before flipping it over, but we wound up cooking it for around 3 to 4 minutes on each side. This left us with an evenly cooked burn-free patty.

This isn’t a great option for anyone that’s craving an actual hamburger; the only thing burger-like about this is its patty form. If you’re looking for something delicious and high-protein you can serve on a bun, however, this patty has you covered. This mildly spicy black bean patty is absolutely bursting with fresh flavor. The patty holds together nicely, and it’s got a great crispy coating that gives us an extra bit of crunch.

We served this up like a standard burger — with lettuce, cheese, and ketchup — but next time we eat one of these patties, we’re going to take a different approach. We think this would taste great with salsa or even some enchilada sauce. The patty would be the perfect filling for a burrito if you took the time to mash it up, and we bet it’s delicious with sour cream.

The Trader Joe’s Quinoa Cowboy Veggie Burgers with Black Beans & Roasted Corn might not taste much like real burgers, but they still taste great. These patties are loaded with peppers, corn, and beans, and they’re bursting with flavor too. If you’ve been searching for vegetarian options in the TJ’s freezer aisle, these patties are worth a closer look.

These Patties are delicious. And even just the plain patty alone is super delicious. You don’t even need a bun to enjoy it. I am new to vegetarian stuff as I was used to eating meat everyday but this item is a winner. I can do without meat now, I found a great substitute!
