Lean Cuisine Favorites Chicken Fettuccini Review

Lean Cuisine Favorites Chicken Fettuccini

If you’re a longtime Freezer Meal Frenzy reader with a sharp eye, you might say the Lean Cuisine Favorites Chicken Fettuccini looks a bit familiar. If so, that’s probably because we reviewed it before. However, since the packaging got a bit of an update, it’s a great time to revisit this microwavable meal.

Cooking this is pretty simple: pop it into the microwave for three minutes, give it a good stir, then stick it back in for two more. Let it cool for about a minute, and you’re ready to rock and roll. (If you want to read the instructions straight off the box, check out the package scans at the bottom of this review.)

The last time we reviewed this frozen food, we noted that it was a decent pasta dish, though we wished the sauce weren’t so runny. We also thought it could stand to be a bit more flavorful — we recommended adding some parmesan cheese to make it more interesting.

This time around, we definitely still wish the sauce were a bit thicker. However, we found the flavor to be a bit richer than we remember it being. Looking at the package, this has more calories than the previous version, which suggests to us that they did change something. Whatever it was, we are glad they did it, because this is a higher quality meal because of it.

However, we initially thought the chicken was pretty decent, and this time around it’s not great. It’s soft and mushy, and it doesn’t have as much flavor as we remember it having. Some better, juicier chicken could have really made this dish stand out.

Lean Cuisine stood by the “Lean” part of their brand name with this meal, as it only has 310 calories. While that’s up from the 290 of the previous version, it’s still not bad for a fettuccini dish (for reference, our favorite Single-serve frozen fettuccini has 560 calories). Compared to the average frozen meal, the sodium here isn’t that bad either, at 660 mg.

Sine the last time we tried it, the Lean Cuisine Favorites Chicken Fettuccini has taken one step forward and another step backward. The sauce has more flavor, while the chicken has less. We think that overall, the quality of the dish has improved, but this does need some better chicken to really be good.
