Good Food Made Simple Hatch Chile Mac Review

Good Food Made Simple Hatch Chile Mac

True fans of comfort food cannot deny the appeal of a good macaroni and cheese dish. And sometimes, a spicy mac & cheese is the perfect meal to enjoy on a cold winter evening. The folks at Good Food Made Simple have provided the perfect thing for those spicy mac cravings, the Hatch Chile Mac.

This dish starts with penne noodles, then adds a chile cheese sauce that combines organic white cheddar cheese with a blend of chiles and jalapeños. It finishes the mix with a good helping of toasted bread crumbs.

Now, this is not a dish for those afraid of spicy foods. The peppers in the chile cheese sauce have a good kick to them, leaving behind a lingering slow burn in your mouth and throat. It’s rare to find a frozen meal with this spice level; it’ll have you reaching for a glass of cold milk to wash it down with.

But while the chile cheese sauce rates very highly for spice level, its flavor level is pretty low. It has a good flavor, but it’s a subtle one. Thankfully, the bread crumbs actually pick up some of the slack in this area, rounding off the taste and making the dish as a whole pretty tasty.

The only real complaint we have is that the noodles were just a tad bit soggy, though not as much as some of the other frozen foods we’ve tried. It’s certainly not enough to ruin the dish.

Good Food Made Simple’s Hatch Chile Mac is a pretty tasty mac and cheese dish with a surprisingly high spice level. Eat at your own risk (though we’re pretty certain it’s worth it for all but the biggest spice-ophobes out there).
