While Lean Cuisine’s Craveables line may not offer gourmet-quality food, it’s got quite a few hits in its lineup. The Chicken Club Panini, for example, really hits the spot. Since the staff at Freezer Meal Frenzy enjoyed that sandwich quite a bit, we decided to explore further into Lean Cuisine’s Craveable Panini offering and check out the Chicken, Spinach & Mushroom Panini.
Like several of the other items in the line, this panini comes with its own patented Revolutionary Grilling Tray. While the very name of it is hyperbolic to the point of eye rolling, the thing actually works. What might otherwise be a soggy mess comes out of the microwave a little bit crispy.
Now, the one big downside to this sandwich is that it’s mostly bread. And that wouldn’t be so bad, but this only serves to emphasize the poor quality of the bread used in this sandwich. If there was just a little bit more in the way of filling, we probably wouldn’t have even noticed. The bad taste is very subtle and it would have been very easy to hide.
The filling itself is halfway decent. It certainly didn’t blow any minds, but it did its job for the most part. The chicken wasn’t terrible, but we’ve had better. The spinach and mushrooms were pretty sparse, and what was there was just alright. The cheese sauce, which is a blend of mozerella, asiago, romano, cheddar, and parmesan, did a lot of heavy lifting to save the flavor. It’s a great mix, but it was just too clear that it was designed to pick up the slack of too many of the other ingredients.
Don’t get us wrong; this sandwich is decent. It’s just not something worth getting excited about, and it doesn’t taste as good as its sibling the Chicken Club Panini.
