Lean Cuisine’s Comfort line is all about delivering frozen food versions of classic meals — the sorts of dishes we might refer to as “mom dishes.” The Chicken Parmesan continues this trend, pairing a breaded chicken patty with spaghetti and tomato basil sauce.
Now, don’t expect some sort of juicy chicken breast here; this white meat chicken is closer to the consistency of a chicken nugget you might get at a high school cafeteria. But if you can make yourself forget about the texture, the taste is actually on point. This is mostly due to the fact that it’s drenched in tomato sauce, and partially due to the thin layer of mozzarella cheese that tops it.
The pasta is nothing special, and it’s maybe a little too starchy, but the sauce is surprisingly good. If it’s runny at all, you won’t even notice because the chicken soaks up any sauce that’s too thin. What’s left is a thick tomato basil sauce that tastes great. In fact, the sauce pretty much saves this dish from being a mediocre frozen dinner. In fact, this is a much better option than the Tortilla Crusted Fish or the Sesame Chicken.
Lean Cuisine’s Chicken Parmesan may not taste like something your mom slaved over a stove all day long for, but it’s not a bad frozen meal by any means. It pairs well with a cold glass of milk.
