When you’re in a rush to get out of the door in the morning, a super quick breakfast can sometimes be a lifesaver. This is why we find ourselves drawn to Sweet Earth’s Farmstand line of breakfast sandwiches; they cook in under a minute and a half. On top of that, they’re all vegetarian friendly.
The Sausage, Egg, Smoked Gouda, and Kale Pesto breakfast sandwich may try to fool you with it’s bold use of the word sausage. Don’t be alarmed, while it doesn’t have a cute name like Benevolent Bacon or Harmless Ham, this “sausage” is not actual meat. And, while it does have a sausage-ish flavor, it’s lacking that gristly consistency you’d expect from real sausage. Will it fool non-vegetarians? Only if they’re not paying attention.
The sandwich comes on flax bread, and we’re fans of that decision for two reasons: there are oats sprinkled on top, and it holds up pretty well when microwaved. Of course, the bottom of the bun will get a little soggy due to condensation, but that’s a problem that might be overcome by heating the sandwich on top of a paper towel. This is something we haven’t tried yet because we’re worried about the bun sticking to the paper towel, and we wouldn’t want to let something like that ruin a perfectly good Farmstand.
The smoked gouda is a nice touch, but the real flavor comes from the kale pesto. As you can see from our images, this sandwich is absolutely loaded with it. So this comes with a warning: if you’re not a fan of kale, you might want to look elsewhere.
The Sausage, Egg, Smoked Gouda, and Kale Pesto breakfast sandwich is pretty great, and it comes with a lower calorie count than the other sandwiches in this line, at 300 (110 from fat). Of course, you might need to eat to if you’re looking for something that will fill you up. Thankfully, these come in boxes of two.
