Amy’s Barbecue Pizza Review

Amy's Barbecue Pizza

We’re not sure we’ll never reach the end of Amy’s frozen food lineup. It seems like every time we’re in the freezer section of our local grocery store, we stumble upon something new. The line is ever-expanding, and that means there’s always something new to try. With Amy’s Kitchen, we really don’t mind, since they have a tendency to produce some pretty tasty items.

The Barbecue Pizza was one of those items that, once we discovered it, we couldn’t leave the store without it. The moment we saw those barbecue sauce-coated pieces of tofu on the front of the box, we knew we’d found something special.

The star of the show here is the barbeque sauce, which you’ll start smelling before the pizza’s even done cooking. And while the bits of tofu aren’t completely slathered in it, as the image on the box might suggest, the sauce definitely dominates the taste of this pizza.

You’ll also find generous helpings of spinach and diced red onions, but they’re really just playing backup to the barbecue sauce. There’s not a lot of cheese, but it’s hard to complain when the pizza tastes so good.

The crust is out of this world. This is some almost gourmet-level pizza crust. It’s hard to believe it comes as part of a frozen meal. Our only real complaint about this pizza is that it’s a bit smaller than it looks. The recommended serving size is 1/3 of the pizza, but we’re not sure three people would be satisfied by it. We’d say it’s enough food for two people, but only if served with sides. A person could easily eat three quarters of it or even the whole thing. And that would push the calorie count quite high; 930 calories (360 from fat) for anyone who decides to eat a whole pizza. Ouch.

Amy’s Kitchen’s Barbecue Pizza is a meal we’re definitely excited to return to, though not too often due to its high calorie count.
