Amy’s Meatless Veggie Sausages Review

Amy's Meatless Veggie Sausages

If you’ve never started the day with a good breakfast sausage, you don’t know what you’re missing. With Amy’s Meatless Veggie sausages, even vegans can enjoy this early morning treat.

The box contains three sets of directions: one for an oven, one for a frying pan, and one for a microwave. We tried the microwave instructions and had four sausage links ready in about a minute. We let them cool for a few minutes and were surprised to find the consistency of these faux links holding up quite well; they weren’t soggy and had a crispy outer crust. Feel free to try the more traditional cooking methods, but these turn out great in a microwave.

Of course, there’s no way a non-vegetarian will be tricked into thinking these are pork sausages. They have a grainy taste, lack the gristle of pork sausage, and have a little bit of a birdseed-like texture. If that makes them sound unappealing, we apologize; these actually taste quite good. Just don’t go in expecting a convincing sausage imposter.

The pack we got had twelve links in it, which — according to the nutrition info on the box — seems to be about the average box count, though you shouldn’t be surprised if you find a pack with eleven or thirteen in it. You don’t need to eat them all at once, and we found that these paired well with a Sandwich Bros. Egg & Cheese Flatbread Pocket Sandwich to make a wonderful light breakfast.

If you stick with the portion size recommended on the box, these sausages are great for dieters. Even if you eat a full box of twelve in one sitting, you’re only going to consume about 330 calories (90 from fat). Of course, we think these are much better when paired with a second breakfast item; we’re not sure that eating a whole box at once would make a satisfying meal, though it might actually be pretty filling. After our four links and small breakfast sandwich, we felt like we’d eaten the perfect amount of food.

Amy’s Meatless Veggie Sausages taste and feel nothing like pork, but they make for a nice, low-calorie breakfast side dish.
