Good Food Made Simple Cavatappi Bolognese Review

Good Food Made Simple Cavatappi Bolognese

Good Food Made Simple might have a few duds in their lineup, but they’ve also got several dishes that have left us impressed, so we weren’t quite sure what to expect from their Cavatappi Bolognese. We are fans of the Lasagna Bolognese, so we were hoping the Cavatappi would be equally as enjoyable.

We were a little nervous about this one in the middle of the cooking process. The microwave instructions say to heat it up for two minutes, then take out of the microwave and stir. At that point, the meal was still mostly a large block of frozen sauce. We mushed it up a little bit and put it in for two more minutes — just as instructed — and it came out just fine. No additional cooking necessary. Whew.

Our one complaint about the Lasagna Bolognese was that the sauce was a bit runny. That’s not a problem with the Cavatappi Bolognese. This sauce is nice and thick — and filled with beef — though there isn’t a whole of it. We would have liked something with just a tad more sauce.

But we really can’t complain about the taste. The sauce doesn’t have the hint of sweetness that the lasagna’s has, but that’s perfectly okay. It’s dusted with parmesan, so it does have a nice flavor, and you’ll be delighted to find a tiny chunk of carrot or two. Plus, the beef portion is fairly generous and the spiral is a great choice for the noodle shape. There’s a bit of mozzarella cheese, though again, we’d have liked perhaps a little bit more of it.

We’ve pointed out a lot of room for improvement, but don’t let that deter you from giving this frozen food a whirl. Despite a few nitpicks, Good Food Made Simple’s Cavatappi Bolognese is a pretty great frozen pasta dish. We can’t wait to try it again.
