Like pizza, the frozen burrito is a longstanding frozen food staple. We at Freezer Meal Frenzy have definitely had our fair share of the things. Oddly enough, we never get sick of them, and we’re always looking to expand our horizons by trying new ones. So we were thrilled to come across Good Food Made Simple’s Chicken & Black Bean Burrito. It’s a time-tested combo by a company we trust.
Now, burritos aren’t something we normally heat in the microwave unless we’re in a hurry. Instead, we like to preheat the oven to 350, wrap a burrito up in tinfoil, and cook it for about 35-45 minutes — we also flip it over about halfway through. That’s exactly how we cooked the Chicken & Black Bean Burrito, and it came out of the oven looking excellent.
One observation we tend to make over and over again when it comes to frozen burritos is that they don’t usually have a lot of whatever meat is advertised on the package. This burrito is no exception; you’ll really have to dig to find the chicken inside.
But that’s okay; there’s plenty of other good stuff in there to make up for it. The brown rice, black beans, and organic salsa blend well to make a pleasant tasting burrito. You’ll also find bits of corn inside, and if you’re lucky, a chunk of red bell pepper or two. The cheddar cheese gives the whole thing an almost creamy taste.
This burrito has 350 calories (80 from fat), and it probably won’t fill you up. It’s not very big. But if you can eat it with a side salad or something else lightweight, it makes a pretty good centerpiece to a broader, more varied lunch.
