Healthy Choice Unwrapped Burrito Bowl Review

Healthy Choice Unwrapped Burrito Bowl

The Freezer Meal Frenzy staff loves frozen burritos, but we don’t always love cooking them in the microwave. Tortillas and microwaves aren’t exactly a great combination. Thankfully, Healthy Choice has come to the rescue with their Simply Steamers Unwrapped Burrito Bowl. By taking the tortilla out of the equation, they’ve released a low-calorie, microwave-friendly dish.

Like all Simply Steamers dishes, the rice, beans, and other vegetables are heated separately from the spicy tomatillo sauce. Once everything is heated up, you can pour the rest of the ingredients into the sauce and stir.

There’s nothing stingy about the sauce portion; we had more than enough in our bowl.

When Healthy Choice says the tomatillo sauce is spicy, they aren’t kidding. While the dish isn’t spicy enough to make you sweat, it is hot enough to leave you scrambling for a glass of water. People that regularly eat spicy foods shouldn’t have any issues, but this is a lot hotter than your average microwave meal.

Unfortunately, “spicy” is the only strong flavor in this dish. The vegetables and rice aren’t exactly flavorless, but they are a little bit bland. If you’re hoping to enjoy the taste of the organic black beans or red bell peppers, you might be disappointed.

That said, this dish should please anyone that likes spice. It’s also an excellent choice for dieters. Eating spicy dishes can temporarily boost the metabolism, and this meal only contains 270 calories. Make this meal a regular part of your diet — and pair it with a good exercise regimen — and you’ll be losing weight in no time.
