At Freezer Meal Frenzy, we love enchiladas. Unfortunately, many frozen food manufacturers struggle with them, which means we have to chomp our way through some pretty unappetizing meals (like Lean Cuisine’s Cheese & Bean Enchilada Verde). Thankfully, Devour — a company known for its incredibly high-quality frozen meals — threw its hat into the ring with their Chicken Enchiladas Suiza.
It may not be much to look at; it has kind of a sloppy appearance. But the visuals don’t matter all that much, because this dish tastes incredible. Every individual piece of this concoction is of the highest quality, and even so, this enchilada dish manages to be far more than just the sum of its parts.
We spend a lot of time at Freezer Meal Frenzy apologizing for the lack of chicken in so many of the chicken-based dishes we review (we’re looking at you, Evol!) That’s not a problem here, as each enchilada is loaded with juicy shredded chicken. When Devour put the word Chicken in the title of this dish, they took it seriously.
We also want to set aside a moment to talk about the corn. It’s sweet and soft, and has an incredible flavor. This might be the best corn we’ve had in a frozen dish.
The real kicker, though, has to be the combination of the sour cream sauce and the monterrey jack cheese. The sauce has some bite to it, thanks to some jalapeño and spices, and the generous portion of cheese is melty and wonderful.
At this point, we normally have to warn our readers about Devour’s high calorie counts, but that’s not as much of an issue here. At 430 calories (130 from fat), this is one of Devour’s leaner dishes.
If you’ve been looking for the perfect frozen enchilada dish, Devour’s Chicken Enchiladas Suiza just might fit the bill.
