DiGiorno Spicy Sausage Pomodoro Artisan Style Melts Review

DiGiorno Spicy Sausage Pomodoro Artisan Style Melts

When you’re craving a quick and easy pizza, it’s hard to go wrong with DiGiorno. Their personal-sized pizzas are true classics, after all. But DiGiorno also has some things in its catalog that put clever twists on the concept of frozen pizza. Their Spicy Sausage Pomodoro Artisan Style Melts fall into the latter category.

These little guys tackle a serious pizza craving, and they can be made in just a few minutes. Each box contains two of these melts, and each melt is individually wrapped with its own crisping tray so you don’t have to eat them both at once.

Although, we can’t blame you for wanting to eat both at once. These things are delicious.

So the big question here is how spicy is spicy? Frozen foods with the word spicy in the title can range from sinus-clearingly spicy to tickles-the-tongue spicy to barely-noticeable-at-all spicy. Here, the word is used to describe the sausage, not the whole dish, but even when you eat the sausage on its own, it’s clear that this is an incredibly mild spice. You won’t be running to fetch a cold glass of milk halfway through.

So don’t come to these expecting serious spice. What you can expect, however, is serious flavor. The sausage is virtually perfect, and the bell peppers sort of keep this thing grounded in that traditional supreme-style pizza flavor combo.

There’s a smattering of sauce beneath these ingredients and a sprinkling of cheese on top. While there certainly could have been more of these things, the portions seem designed to make the great flavor of the sausage really stand out.

Plus, the crust is fantastic. It’s a thicker, softer crust, which doesn’t get  crispy per se, but each crisping tray really does its job at preventing the bottom from getting soggy.

Like so many good things in this world, there is a catch. At 310 calories per melt (100 from fat), you’re clearly not looking at a diet-friendly meal. Eat a whole pack — which you’ll be tempted to do — and you’re looking at a whopping 620 calories. Dieters beware.

If you don’t mind the calorie count, DiGiorno’s Spicy Sausage Pomodoro Artisan Style Melts are an incredible twist on the classic supreme pizza format. They’re delicious!
