We’ve tried some of Bellisio’s Eat! frozen meals in the past, and we weren’t particularly impressed. The Korean Inspired Chicken was a bit of a letdown, and even the Mac & Cheese with Uncured Bacon was a bummer. But we don’t hold grudges here at Freezer Meal Frenzy, so we decided to give Eat! another chance. This time, we tried the Eat! Bim Bap Orange Chicken.
Of course, our forgiveness was perhaps a bit misplaced, as this frozen food is not very good.
If you’re expecting a nice, sweet orange sauce — like we were — you’re going to be incredibly disappointed. This meal tastes like someone just squeezed a full orange into a chicken and rice bowl and called it a day. It’s like a child was asked to come up with an orange chicken dish and just did what they thought to be the most obvious thing. The adults in the room would have all had a good laugh about it — unless they were asked to actually eat the stuff.
The vast majority of this dish is brown rice. It’s bland, allowing the oversaturation of orange flavor to really settle in. There’s some chicken as well, though not a lot, and what’s present is dry and flavorless — also soaking up that pungent orange flavor. And even the vegetables here — carrots, broccoli, squash, and red peppers — are inoffensive at best.
This is a fairly low calorie dish at 270, and it’s even less than that if you find yourself unable to finish it. We ate as much as we could, but we ended up throwing about half of it out. The orange flavor was way too much for us, and there was nothing in the dish that made up for its awfulness.
The Eat! Bimbap Orange Chicken is not a good frozen meal by any means. We’d recommend avoiding it. If you’re dying for a killer frozen bibimbap, however, you might want to head to your local Trader Joe’s and pick up their Bibimbap Bowl instead of wasting your time with this Eat! atrocity.
Or “Eat-rocity.” Yeah, we think we like that.
